How we began…
St. Albans Sinhala Language School was established on 1st of February 1998 with only nineteen students and four teachers who had recently migrated to Australia from Sri Lanka. It was inaugurated with the intention of overcoming the compelling challenge of generating young children who are aware of their heritage, cultural values and language, despite living in a multicultural society.
We have a come a long way since then and today,
We conduct classes from Prep to Grade Nine.
We teach Sinhala Language by promoting all four skills namely reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Promote cultural and historical awareness of our motherland.
Inculcate moral values using Buddhist philosophy.
Providing an innovative curriculum to facilitate effective learning of the Sinhala language that has been accepted as a second language at the VCE examination.
Preparing students competency for their future, giving opportunity for VCE Examinations.
Ensuring the highest standards from our teachers and programmes.
Creating theoretically sound and effective teaching materials and assessment instruments.
We believe that language is more than ‘just language’ – it is a cultural transmitter. Language and communication are essential for close relationships between generations: for mutual understanding and social interaction. Therefore, we thrive to breed knowledge and passion for Sinhala language and culture into the bones of our students.
